Nothing specific to 3g's - I didn't know what the 3g ones were like, because I don't have any to compare!
Baskets aren't uncommon... 4g's have baskets on the front, for example (can't remember about the rear, might just be spacer rings there also).
However, the rear 3g ones are 2 piece - the top cover and a spacer underneath. The spacer ring is instead of a basket.

Sorry, I was thinking I'd come by and pick them up on Sunday like we'd suggested, but the weekend ended up working flat out at the barn instead (didn't finish till late Sunday afternoon).

Spacers, it is, no baskets. Any of you got a spare 3g auto alternator? Mine may be about to go belly up.

Anyway, u mean an alternator is dependent on being an auto or manual gear box?

If not, i could ask about that breaking 3g?
