Side skirts was something I had not really considered, although I had seen Rich do that to his car. I suppose I can split the side skirts and drill out the one underneath.

Yeah the wing mirrors are on my list already.

Cheers wiggz, I was trying to remember who I saw doing that. I'll need to copy. Do you have a link or is your profile indexed?

cut out the space in the boot for the spare wheel and weld a straight sheet over the space. saves a good bit ;)

you could also try gutting your doors ?
taking off all the metal from the inside and leave only the skin.

and same with your bootlid, cut the skeleton out etc 8-)

bet that would save alot of weight

A vid I took for the guys who wanted to see the Hondata S300 launch control in action. My first go a at hard launch got the car from 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, despite a bit of drizzle and me staying in 1st for too long. I reckon I could get that down to 5 seconds.

The class structure for Super Lap Scotland 2015 has been released and I am not enthused by it. I have put up last years class structure for comparison.

2014
Pro: 450+ whp/T
A: 375-450 whp/T
B: 300-375 whp/T
C: 225-300 whp/T
D: 150-225 whp/T
E: <150 whp/T

2015
Pro: > 450 whp/T
A: 351 - 450 whp/T
B: 271 - 350 whp/T
C: 211 - 270 whp/T
D: 161 - 210 whp/T
E: <160 whp/T

The SLS organisers said they wanted to tighten up some of the groups and try and entice more entrants for 2015. I don't think the organisers have done enough to sort out the lower classes, my suggestions for group D to be more of an intermediate class have fallen on deaf ears  IMO the blatantly faster cars in group D will still be there and will continue to post time that are frankly are beyond what the Lude is capable of. So until the class structure is sorted out I think I will add ballast and drop into group E.

last year the class structure meant that adding ballast to my car was impractical so I continued to compete in class D. However, with the limit of class E being raised to 160whp/T for 2015, I am only 10whp/T over that at the moment. By adding 80kg (passenger seat + ~60kg of ballast) I will drop into the top of class E. At the moment I am lapping 2 seconds faster (60.5s) than class E lap records from 2014, I do not think that the addition of 80kg will drop anything like 2 seconds from my lap.

Doing ~62s on a hot day with a passenger and the weight of the car in this vid (something like 1327kg) is well over target weight for next season (1300kg). Driving like I am carrying a passenger too rather than going all out.

Lap records at the bottom of this page http://www.superlapscotland.co.uk/championship.htm

This saves me a couple of grand in investment, and ripping the car apart, to make the car capable of competitive 58s laps. I can always move up a class next year when I think the class structure will be adjusted again.

Edit - for my own reference

Sounds like an excellent plan Al.
Shame all the recent discussion/advice re: losing weight was a waste of time though
