ok looking at replacing split pins and castellated nuts with nyloc nuts what do people think

I've bought ball joints before which have these supplied with them in place of castle nuts, so I'd like to think they're up to the job

I couldn't say for sure though, sounds like a question for an engineer

Why do you want to change them to nylock?

They'll work ok, but they're a total PITA to undo later in comparison (IMO).

With nylock, as soon as you crack off the friction from the cone, when you try and spin the nut off the rest of the way (or alternatively on the way in) the ball joint just spins instead of the nut doing up. No problem with that on the castellated nuts. Plus castellated nuts are re-usable, whereas you should bun nyloc nuts after single use.

The main reason nyloc nuts are used in preference to castellated these days, is cost.

your probably right wurly just had to snap off three pins because they absolutely refused to budge and they were forced right in so nothing to grab at the loop end

Ok yep, that can be an arse.
Just need a drift the right diameter to whack them out back now.
If you use stainless split pins to replace them, that won't be a problem

ps good luck buying nyloc nuts with the right thread pitch for Honda balljoints, on a Sunday

Nyloc nuts are a massive

When trying to remove.

Actually, I did have this problem on all of the ones on the breaker tbh.
Snapping the ends off as close as poss and air impact gun to rip through the rest of them, FTW!
