Sticking sunroof *UPDATE*

Post by Bludge » Sun Oct 12, 2014 6:38 pm

My sunroof has taken a few goes on the button to work since i bought it, but has got worse lately, to the point of mashing the button like im playing street fighter and it moving and sticking again eevry 67 presses or so.

Changed the motor today and its still the same. i wd40'd the runners amd the splines that the motor drives, which were all caked in filth, and it was working a lot better for a few minutes, now its barely working again.

Any suggestions on a quick and easy fix? or should i just try the other sunroof frame i have?

I would swap out the sunroof unit as a whole. I bet its a swollen /broken slider that's causing it to stick ;)

I'm about to bin a 4th gen sunroof mechanism (no panel)!
It's been outside in the rain today, but you can have it for free if you can get it collected somehow?

do you have to remove the sliding panel to get the frame out? want to do it tonight and get it done on the quick so was just gonna swap the whole thing out and change the panels another time.

Ok so just spent the evening replacing the sunroof, in the dark, on my own. :x

The issue is exactly the same, need to hammer the button for anything to happen. open doesnt work at all, close is a lot better but still tempremental. pissed off does not cover it.

So thats 2 different motors and 2 different frames presenting the exact same issues. what else could it be? is there a relay for the sunroof?

Yeah, the switch activates a relay. Relays in general can stick after a certain time or amount of use.

Or that!!

When you press the switch, you should also hear a clicking from the footwell which is the relay switching on.

you can hear a clicking with the close button but not with the open. wish i had tried the relays first now...

*EDIT* relays click with both open and close buttons, but no movement from the sunroof.
