starting problems help
Post by GJMHONDA2012 » Thu Oct 09, 2014 10:57 am
Hi guys over the past week my lude has been having problems starting my battery doesnt seem to be holding its charge but the battery light or no other warning lights come on atall, it was yesterday when I went out to leave for work and the battery was completely dead it reset the clock and everything but as soon as my good neighbour connected his battery booster pack it fired up straight away, there seems to be acid reacting with the paint on my tegiwa battery bracket but I dont have a clue whether its my battery or my alternator

Ive never replaced the battery and ive had car just over 2 years mate im assuming it is the battery maybe it having some buggered cells or something lol like I said there is some sort of chemical reaction on my battery bracket so im guessing that there is acid seeping out the top somewere, theres definately no battery light coming onMerlin wrote:If it were the alternator chances are it would give a battery warning light. If the battery you are currently using isnt new I would assume the battery is goosed.

Check the charging voltage with the engine running.
Should be around 14V DC.
If it's over 14.<something> then the voltage regulator in the alternator is knackered and will be cooking your battery (which may be salvageable or may then also be drokked)
If it's 14.<something> DC and zero/negligeable AC then the alternator is fine and your battery must be knackered.
Is it a maintenance free battery? If not, open the caps on the cells and check the electrolyte level. If low, get some top up water from an autospares shop and top it up, then monitor to see if if goes down again quite quickly (it shouldn't).

Yep!
My reason for picking up your spare one was because I sold one of my spares to vtecmec and then had to use the last one on the 3rd gen
