This is what Jay (the lad who owned a Turbo'd ATR with more then 500bhp), he swapped his U2q7 gearbox for a Prelude one just like how you mentioned above.106pete wrote:I would have thought the u2q7 was to short on the ratios for a boosted car, just get a m2a4 and fit a quaif diff and maybe even a longer 5th to go with it?

The U2Q7 is the cheap way to do it as they can be picked up for £200-£300? The cost of an MA24/M2F5 with a new Quaife in it will be £750 ish. But you could do what BennyBoy and Dino did, get a U2Q7 diff from somewhere and put it in a different gearbox (you cant put any other diff in an M2B4).
The U2Q7 has an ever so slight longer 1st gear than the M2A4/M2F5 but has shorter 2nd and 3rd. http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/honda-p ... t2130.html
U2Q7 (Red) Vs M2A4 (Blue) - Both these boxes have a 4.266 final drive

M2A4 (Red) Vs M2F5 (Blue) - The M2A4 has a 4.266 FD while the M2F5 has a 4.062 FD

This is what I think:
M2B4
Pros - You have it already
Cons - Not the best diff your your application
U2Q7
Pros - The cheapest way of getting a Torsen diff.
Cons - Short 2nd,3rd and 5th gears. Big rev drop while changing from 3rd-4th.
M2A4 + Quaife
Pros - The gearbox is cheap. Decent balance of acceleration Vs cruising RPM.
Cons - Expensive diff and requires professional fitting.
M2F5 + Quaife
Pros - The gearbox is cheap. Slightly longer gears from 1st-4th due to the taller final drive, still pulls hard in 5th.
Cons - Expensive diff and requires professional fitting. Not as good as the M2A4 for 5th gear cruising RPM.

Re: DANS FORGED TURBO BB4
So for a dd I would be best with a quaife and m2a4 gearbox? Can you get upgraded syncros for this gearbox ?

Yeah the M2A4 is probably the better box for a daily. Yes you can get better syncros, I am not sure if you need them, I don't for my car but you'll be putting out a load more torque than me. http://shop.synchrotech-transmissions.c ... es_c48.htm

Totaly agree. U2Q7 is perfect for 205BHP. Another 50-100 BHP would be still OK IMHO. But can't imagine to put through this box 500BHP on first or second gear.106pete wrote:I would have thought the u2q7 was to short on the ratios for a boosted car, just get a m2a4 and fit a quaif diff and maybe even a longer 5th to go with it?

Hmmm ypu do not need to imagine that, ypu can see it, check Seven's topic on Prelude Poland. He is running 500BHP Turbo Lude with Queen box and he is doing it wellK30DPC wrote:

ludes are ment to be driven, not wanking around on a stand like a Civic.

For some reasons I wasn't on polish forum for a while so I don't know actual story about it. But AFAIK he keep this car in his garage and using it couple of times during the summer season. Even wanted to sell it but there was no interest for the money he was asking. It is impresive spec car but this isn't topic about it. No offence mate but I think we are talking about something more reliable as a daily in here.
