AAAA h22a or h22a2 or h23 block

cant see any markings, where should i be looking ?

On the belt side of the engine look where the head joins the block. On the back of the engine there is a little narrow "shelf" right near the belt cover, and the letters are stamped on it. It will no doubt be covered in gunk that will need to be wiped away before you can see the letters.

It's to do with the variance in cylinder sizes. The B's are slightly larger and have slightly larger 'B' type pistons.

i was told its from which factory the block was made, and so AAAA marked blocks need to have A marked pistons and the same with BBBB blocks and B marked pistons, otherwise things just wont work. im sure what vtecmec is true as well, but im the wrong person to ask there - im sure Merlin/Phil or another LG god will let you know

ive never heard of Merlin's XXBB block

wonder what that's from, a 3rd factory maybe?

What I meant by XXBB was that as soon as I wiped a bit of crud off the block I saw that the last two letters were B's so I didnt bother wiping any more crud off to see the other two letters
