Wheel Popping noise reverse only. New cv's

Post by rick82 » Sat Sep 13, 2014 3:46 pm

Hi

I have got a metallic kind of popping/crunching noise when I turn in reverse on the front offside. I have replaced both outer cv joints, drop links and top wishbone bushes. There is no movement in the wheel when I jack it up and can't replicate the noise when jacked?
What else could this be??

Thanks

Are you sure the cv joint is located in its clip?? As in, did you give it a good tapping on untill it taps 'solid' ?? The nut done up to torque?? Wheel nuts tight???

Yes everything is tight and sitting in its right place. It was doing this before I replaced the cv. I assumed it was the cv as the gator was split and couldn't see what else it was likely to be

So its only doing under load, in reverse. You cant get it to do it going forwards?? I have the exact same type of noise on my civic. Worse when reversing. I know its the cv joint on mine just haven't got around to doing it yet  Well the only things moving are the wheel bearing, brake disc and the cv joints/driveshaft. So if you have already done the cv joint then maybe look at the bearing/brake components??

Yeah it only does it under load. I was sure it was the cv but obviously not I guess the only moving parts are the disks and when bearing just seems odd why it only does it in reverse?

In reverse only, you say?

Hmmm.

Does it sound, erm... evil, a bit like.... a bit like one of those Black Sabbath records playing backwards? I mean, you seem to have exhausted the usual issues.....

And what's it like near churches? Has a member of the clergy ever - however grudgingly - accepted a lift from you? Do you sometimes have strange fantasies when you're driving, about smearing your naked body with the blood of sacrificial chickens and forcing yourself on Nissans (I mean, in a way that you might not usually)?

Just trying to build up a picture.

You know, I'm not suggesting it is demonic possession.... just that, well maybe you shouldn't rule it out?
