4WS on a track

The springs in the rear rack are big fuckers. BUT they do fatigue with age. There will be some forced movement when driving the car hard

The ONLY and BEST way to use the car with broken 4ws is to fit 2ws subframe, or fix the 4ws, as others have said. I personally haven't driven 4ws on track as I converted my lude before I tracked it. I would not go using a car hard with faulty 4ws

Thanks for the input Merlin, I see your logic but still dont think that the suspension engineers would have allowed faulty 4ws to be 'dangerous', considering the sensitivity of the system to throw errors and the precarious nature of shopping cart handling!

Did you ever drive your 5G without 4WS (removed or faulty)?

I have only ever had my 4WS light come on once and it crabbed at slow speeds. I think I pulled away in a tight turn with the handbrake still on and the 4WS flipped. Restarted the car and all was well.

If your car has 4WS and its working, dont be wary of taking it on track just because of the 4WS. My 5th always did what I asked of it on track. Even cought a few tank slappers with it.

I've done that. I just find that if anything 4WS helps you to correct so you seem to maybe need slightly less lock to get it back, or in my case to be a bit less tidy than usual but I'm getting used to it

I've been out on track with 4ws and loved it. I've never had 2ws to compare though.
I have been going fast down some A roads with fualty 4ws and the car has crabbed. It's not fun.

It isn't dangerous to drive the car normally when the 4ws is drokked, but it's not fun, you need to be on your guard because it does get pulled off line by ruts in the road etc.
I wouldn't go on track with it like that. It's not designed to be driven hard when it's locked out, as it says in the handbook, it's designed to get you home/to your nearest garage when driven carefully - which it does.
End of.

I have had the arse end of a 4th gen up in the air with the 4ws in fault mode and you can pull the rack about a bit left/right. It does take a lot of force, but that's exactly what you get when a 1.5t car takes a corner...

ive driven my lude around 8 times on the track now with 4ws. its never failed on me, and i never hang around on any trackday

can't give any imput for driving faulty 4ws on the track or road though sorry, as its never failed

I forgot to say...
3g 4ws is indeed a completely different kettle of fish! It's really quite extreme. Turn in on the car is really, really sharp and sudden!

I can see it would have been a bit hard for ordinary Joe bloggs to live with every day when they were on mass sale.

we did donnington in 2 ludes both with 4ws not working ( to be fare someone had doctored the 4ws lights on both we never had a prob and we nailed both of them ( there were 3 not so imprezas and 2 evo 's and all were in the kitty litter at some stage ) yet the ludes never went off ???
