im happy about going down this route but.. its not my ideal route for my car. though it does have benefits
negitives.
mis match engine number will be in the car.
always the nagging doubt about its durability due to being stood for so long.
not having a refreshed engine as planned.
positives.
a few pennies left in the wallet.
hopefully no oil leaking on the driveway.
piece of mind knowing the cam and balance belts/waterpump tensioners bottom pulley have been replaced
time enough to take care of my known, but slightly smokey and oil leaky engine.
spare atts unit.
spare gearbox.
plus other ancileries

I think you are reaching on the negatives there buddy
you'll not be selling the car so the engine number doesn't matter imho I would consider using the spare as a short term stand in replacement while yours is getting refreshed this winter as planned but you could also leave your engine where it is for the time being and really monster mine up to 245bhp with all new seals and gaskets and tuned parts then drop it in next year. I know you say space to work is an issue but where there is a will.....
Its fair you say on the seals, though I feel the engine is good for a ways yet, and thats why I put the idea forwards. You could spend the next year learning and geeking this spare into a beautiful piece of art and then when its ready take out your mildly smokey one and drop it in. Then you can take the smokey bits out of your otherwise well running engine and keep that aside as the spare. You wont be as shy on the go pedal then
I also appreciate the money burning a hole in your pocket but with the head start you have on savings (ie the money going into the straight swap now) you could do a hell of a lot over a little time and still have the cash saved for the actual engine swap when all your worries about the seals etc are gone because thats month away and you can be saving in the mean time.
Its just a thought to get the most out of swapping engines just once, rather than maybe twice or face the possibility of having to get work done later on down the road the the spare going in now.

I couldnt wish for a better home to be fair
it breaks my heart but at the same time its great that it hits at a time that sam can make best use of my need. Everything happens for a reason

I am but it will depend on the sitution and how i feel at the time. This is a good thing happening for all involved so its supposed to happen. You make your fate when things are down and you need to change reality to a shape you prefer.
