I never meant to get one!! After my Honda died, I was getting the train home from work one evening, and decided to stop off at the used car place just down the road from the station - one of those places that does £500 cars :? Anyway I was looking round their unit trying to find a cheap A to B mobile, and whilst checking out a 450 quid Vectra spotted the Golf tucked in the corner!! Bought it the next day after work without even mentioning it to my girlfriend, just brought it home  I've had to do loads of work to get it running ok, but I've enjoyed it, and learnt way more than I ever would have with a tatty old Vectra or Escort :D It's soon to be up for sale though!! Time for the next impractical car I think

Took a bit of inspiration from some of the Lude's on here that've been de-wipered, and stripped the rear wiper from my Golf today. I like it 8-)

Hey folks,

So my old bonnet was riddled with dents, looked like somebody had tap-danced on it. So I set about finding a new one. £30 later and a 10 mile drive to a nearby town and I had one. Unfortunately a previous owner was a Barry boy and had added a scoop, but hey £30 is £30. Anyhow, my mate and I spent the weekend preparing and painting it, then fitted it today:

I kind of like it better than the old bonnet

that looks good imo - not a fan of bonnet scoops but that one suits the golf - the fact thats it offset makes it look like it actually has a purpose.

you still planning on selling the car?

Yeah the offset is what I like too, I've never been a fan of the muscle car scoops that sit centrally. Funny you should mention functionality - I was thinking if putting it to use in order to vindicate it. The carb sits on the opposite side to it, with a box filter and some ducting it'd make a great cold air feed. Or I thought it'd be pretty cool to mount an oil cooler there instead.

Yeah she's still up for sale - she's parked outside my office with for sale signs everywhere lol. We're right by a train station and college so there's pretty decent foot fare, although tbh I'm in no hurry to see her go. Even if I am hopefully buying another Honda this weekend :P

Gave her a good wash today! I failed with a bucket (hose pipe ban  ) so ended up putting her through the car wash. I know it's bad for the paint but seeing as I've got 21 years of fade, scratches and god knows what else I'm not too concerned

I think she scrubs up alright though

Took it for a cruise up and down the beach with the windows down and stereo up 8-) I love this car in the summer, as soon as the sun comes up all the running issues just go away

I have a friend breaking his Mk3 GTi (8v one, not 16), is there anything you would use from it?

8v is good, all the engine parts are interchangeable with mine 8-) do you know what size engine it was mate? I'm converting the Golf to run on bike carbs, so there may be a few bits I'd be interested in depending on the old money situation :)

2.0L :)

No major rush, it's not going anywhere anytime soo ... key got accidentally snapped off in the ignition and it's in his garage with the steering lock on

Not sure about mileage, or what exactly he has left, but if there's anything you can think of just let me know and I'll ask.
