back wheel bearings?

My tip would be to leave all the rubbers in place and also fit bolts into any threads, it's absolutely 100% rubber safe, but the stuff eats metal, a lot slower than rust, but still you don't want to be reducing the size of your pistons and opening the bores.

See what you can get mate. If you can get the old bearings out easy enough then just buy replacement bearings. If they won't come out with ease, I'd just slap on a complete pair of hubs.
