Not really a solution for fixing idle problems, its more for reducing the temperature of the intake manifold and therefore allowing colder, denser air into the engine, giving more power. I would get your idle sorted before thinking about blanking anything. Several articles online about blanking the FITV and IACV but it can make the car harder to start in cold weather, needing some throttle application while it is warming up.doozer1 wrote:hi guys. sorry its taken so long to get back but my lude is doing my head in.trying to sort tickover out ,struggling with thermal control valve. has any one heard about bypassing the fitv and the ivac valves. the yanks seem to do it all the time.any body got any thoughts on this.i would appreciate it if you have.
Lots of articles to be found for sorting idle issues and you need to make sure every step is checked:
- no vacuum leaks (cracked hoses or throttle body loose?)
- coolant system full and bled to remove any air pockets
- pull radio fuse to reset the idle system
- check for FITV or IACV problems by covering the respective air intake holes in the throttle body
- FITV stripped, cleaned and wound all the way in then back-out 3/4 a turn
- IACV stripped and cleaned
- throttle body cleaned
- throttle cable adjusted
- TPS tested

You know, I think that is a fallacy with respect to the IACV, the coolant lines go to the IACV to keep it cool and increase its lifespan (it does not use the coolant for its operation) drawing heat from this will ultimately draw heat from the IM, therefore removing it will actually increase the temp of the IM.SPYDOR wrote:Not really a solution for fixing idle problems, its more for reducing the temperature of the intake manifold and therefore allowing colder, denser air into the engine, giving more power. Bypassing the FITV will make it run like a dog until it's warmed up, I've tried it and would not recommend.
As Spydor says, look at the points he has noted before messing with anything else.
