Are you getting them to put in the base slab for you, or just the foundations?
Also are you reinforcing the floor under the ramp, or just leaving it as basic concrete?

They're doing the whole slab

I haven't decided for sure which booth I want the ramp in yet, and I might even change my mind after installing it, so I simply intend on having a large slab under each column to distribute the weight. The slab is going to be 150mm thick aposed to 100mm thick as well.

150mm straight concrete won't be enough to support the foot load of a 2 post lift.

A large steel slab under each column (Maybe even one large one, spanning both) to distribute the weight.

Have you thought about doing a deeper reinforced slab instead?

I'd just go for a 600mm deep trench across the middle of the base (i.e. full width across the garage so it covers all bays and you can make your mind up later were you put in the lift) and wide enough to take the base of a 2 post lift. Then you just need to place a couple of layers of mesh (I can get the spec for you later today if you like) and get that all poured as one in the base slab. Done, dusted and cheap when it's done at this stage and you get full flexibility for arsing around with where the lift goes, later. Plus the lift mounts flat on the floor.

Coincidentally my builder rang just seconds after you'd posted that regarding the soakaway that they've just started digging. I took the opportunity to see if what you'd suggested was a viable option, but unfortunately it's too late. I could have push him to it, but I could tell he would have grudgingly excepted if he did and I don't want to upset him

They were actually planning to off hire the digger today (And he mentioned that before I'd mentioned this

). He did say they are reinforcing it with mesh though and as said it's going to be 150mm thick, so I'm confident with my load-spreading plate method it'll be fine.

I'm back from a wonderful week away, so here are the week's progress pics my Mum and Dad (who looked after the cats) kindly kept me updated with...

Day 1 & 2 (Block-work started. The build is to be rendered on completion hence the lack of pointing)...

Day 3 (Block-work finished)...

Day 4 (Ducting put in for electric and the pad filled with 150mm of scalping)...

Day 5, On our return (Scalping compacted ready for concrete)...
