Oil Filter Relocation

Hey chaps.

Does anyone run a oil filter relocation setup? Is there any pros/cons to doing this??

If so, does anyone have pics of there setup?

Not fitted mine yet, but make sure you fit a thermostat divert else you'll be waiting an age for the car to warm up. Don't go eBay special. And try and keep the filter and lines at a similar height to standard.

Yea ok. I was thinking location wise, under where the battery is, bolted to the chassis leg. The battery would be in boot of course. I have also heard don't go cheap as they tend to leak or break. Something about AN fittings or something??

whats the advantage to relocating ur filter? iv never heard of people doing this?

Just for ease or servicing/changing the filter at home, without getting covered in oil!! I can do it at work on a ramp, but cant always get access to a ramp.

The main reason to relocate the oil filter is to run a stand alone oil cooler alot more easily. If you run a thermostatic switch it will open at say 90deg C and redirect oil to the cooler after the remote filter.

I apparently HAD to run one with my JRSC since ATTS gets in the way of changing the filter on the Type S but since im right hand drive and not left like the americans i can change the filter.

I attempted doing it anyway and the AN fittins are a PITA to tighten so they kept leaking. Leaked about 1 litre in 10secs. and i had them pretty tight.

But on normal Preludes i cannot see an advantage or relocating the oil filter. There is plenty of access behind there anyway. You can always use a sandwich plate thermostat to run to an oil cooler.

i bought one of those sandwich plates and i have an oil pressure gauge and temp gauge i want to install when i take car in to be serviced/Tbelt but if its no advantage to me then i wont bother, just sounded cool thats all and i was curious

No Ratty was talking about having the oil filter relocated, not having a sandwich plate for sensors ect. I think there is another thread somewhere about that topic. Not sure where tho

Ratty wasn't talking about gauge sensors Chris. He's saying the only real reason for an oil filter relocation is in addition to an oil cooler as you'd be routing the oil lines to around the front for a cooler anyway, but it's not a necessity as you can run a thermostatic sandwich plate to the cooler and leave the oil filter in the OEM position.

As he's also pointed out it's not worth the trouble unless you go quality (mucho money) of the kit as they can leak. I was lucky to find an unused driftworks oil cooler/filter relocation kit for cheap. Otherwise you're talking over £400 worth of kit.
