I've had these "feelings" lately too..

its the OCD perfection thing, I think I'm getting over it and the rust, so just gonna enjoy driving it

one day I was thinking might find a perfect shell and swap everything over

I can totally associate with the OCD thing

I do like things to be 'just so', yet my artwork can be messy or neat. Eclectic brain to say the least...

My car is not mint, but it's in very good nick and the only thing that used to really worry me was rust.
You'll spend a lot less getting your lude into an enjoyable condition than you will on a new car, but that's totally personal.

I've never really got the whole 'it's not worth it' attitude that, TBF, most people have when they get to this stage. Why? Why isn't it worth it? Unless you're planning to sell it for a profit, IMHO the car is TOTALLY worth it. We have to start to look at what our car is worth to US , and that means what are our options/alternatives.
@lewd lude lovermakes a fair point, and he's happy with his beemer, but I would maybe suggest that he doesn't feel the loss that changing your car might produce, as he still has it sitting in the garage?

Just a thought.

Case in point, when I had my mustang, which was obvisouly a bona fide classic by then, people would regularly spend twice as much restoring as the car as it would be worth when it was done. Why? Because they wanted a mustang, in great condition, where they knew everything was sorted and they could just get in it and enjoy it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not being all ludes-are-the-best-car-evvaaaaa!, I know there are others, but frankly even if you spent 1 - 1.5k on it getting it sweet again, it'd still be money well spent. And in monetary terms, any lude with the rust sorted and and great nick is going to be up for more than that anyway, look at @h10ndr's and maybe mine?
So it's STILL worth it!

Seriously, go drive some other cars, try to see what you'd miss. And if you're ever down my way you are most welcome to come out and have a spin in mine to see what a lude with a little attention and admittedly money spent on it drives like.

If I owned a 4G, I would consider getting a S2000, DC5 or a Type-S prelude.

None of our cars are ''worth it'' in the final breakdown (pun intended) so you really have to decide what else you might want to drive. My guess is you'll find it hard to repalce.

Try a 5th gen, the steering is sooooo much better than the 4th. you never know, you might like it

The way I look at it is that our cars are our hobby, and a hobby is something that you spend money on purely to achieve enjoyment.

For example my Dad plays Golf. He doesn't need to play Golf (although he'd argue the toss on that if you tried to stop him

), so you could argue that he needlessly spends a couple of thousand a year on his club fees, petrol, clubs & gear, and so on and so forth. However as he's enjoying himself he's happy to pay the money even though there's no financial return on it.

And so I look at my cars the same way. I live about 3 miles from my work and I have no children, so if I was being purely practical I would probably drive a 1 litre Lupo or something equally uninspired and I'd fap away every night to my low fuel bills, insurance premium and maintenance costs. However, I enjoy driving, and I really like my cars. So I can justify the expense of running something less fuel efficient and uneccasary in a practical sense because I feel that the enjoyment it gives me is worth the increased expense. And yeah it does cost more to maintain and sometimes things break and there are tears but when I stand back and think about it I always come back to the same conclusion, my cars make me happy and I am still prepared to spend money on them even though I have no chance of seeing it back.

So sorry for rambling, but I guess what I'm getting at is pretty much any car that's going to bring you enjoyment is going to end up costing more to run than it's worth on paper - you've just got to take a view on if it's costing you more to run than it's providing you enjoyment, if it's possible to quantify such a thing
