Where my boyfriend lives, a small-ish farming village (population in 2001 was around 3k)... There was at one time 54 yes FIFTY FOUR pubs in the village.

There are now just two... :(

Although one of them has survived since at least 1588 so I reckon that's doing pretty good considering! Almost 500 years! :o
