Fair enough thats why I asked, just tapped in speakers last night and among others these came up and were cheap, I thought for a reason and if the sound is jobby I dont want them. What I do want is something I can just plug into a headphone socket on this tablat or laptop and will sound decent and fairly loud. Perhaps I will take my old massive boombox thingy wrapped in orange carbon fibre

back home from the garage then. Thanks for the input.

LLL I don't think you're being a snob giving that opinion about that stuff - it isn't good even for the money, end of. It is very very tempting though, looks like you get a lot. And for a tots party? meh, actually why bother with anything better?

The Piezo's I bought last year surprised me though - I got very lucky discovering it is possible to get decent ones (but agreed, most/cheap piezo's are PAINFUL and I'm not saying a good non-Piezo won't be better than a good Piezo! )

A piezo is a type of tweeter (the bit that makes the high frequency noises) that works by vibrating a crystal, as opposed to, say, moving a standard speaker cone.

Mine arrived today, not bad.
Sounds great on the desk in a quiet room. We'll see how it fares at work in the trouser pocket, down an tunnel from an abandoned railway.

It was fine, and much lighter/smaller than what I had been using previously.

LLL, have you any advice for me?

Looking for a decent crisp sounding with a decent bass speaker for summer afternoons in the garden, in the house etc.

Would prefer the bass to be punchy as i listen to some noisy music such as punk, grunge, screamo etc, as well as some more sedate stuff. This is also why i like a nice crisp treble.

I'm currently using an old Cambridge 4.1 set of pc speakers, great sound for what they are, but a pain in the arse to set up, cables all over the patio etc. so would prefer an all in one thing. Something i can just pick up and move when pissed and it is bed time or if it starts to rain.

I went to a BBQ recently and they had a Parrot (i think) Bluetooth Boombox which got me thinking i like the idea of that. Bluetooth isn't the be all and end all though. Plan is to used my old HD2 phone as a media player with a 32GB card and i can also connect wirelessly through the home network to a NAS drive with 64GB of music on it, so i can plug the HD2 in by audio jack if required.

In the house i've got some Bose Companions which i use for the TV. I plug my phone into these if we have people round, but i don't rate them and was they were a disappointing purchase.

Would like a bit of volume without distortion too. My lad won't let me use his Laney bass amp to play my music

, but seriously, I don't know how they make this for the money. A really well made, clear, fairly loud little speaker. Even the packaging is good.
