Windscreen help!!

Post by MrsGreeny » Sat Jun 07, 2014 6:23 pm

So.... My A pillars, both sides of the windscreen, at the top are rusty and my plastic trim does not fit because of this.
On Greeny's car, the trim all the way around the windscreen is rubber (mine is plastic and clips in). My question is, when I have my windscreen replaced can I swap to the rubber trim, which fits and looks better, or do I have to stick with the plastic trim?

My windscreen will be getting replaced on the insurance because it is cracked. Will the window trim (sides and top) Be something that will be replaced with the windscreen or will I have to source my own?

Thanks in advance :)

you should make sure they fit a new screen trim the old one will distort on the way out and will never fit flat again

I want and need a new one anyway but can I have a rubber one? Is there a reason my car has plastic? And is that something that comes with a windscreen when it's fitted normally? 101 questions

Never seen two types :?
What I would say is get the a pillars sortedd while the screen is out, i did similar a few years back. If the trim isn't fitting properly, the rust is probably worse than you can see. Not trying to scare you! just FYI :)

Yeah neither had I. Mine is defo plastic though whilst Greenys is rubber. And i do need to do something about the A frame but how realistic is this? Can they be replaced easily? And what cost am I looking at?

Replacing is probably not a realistic option, as you'd need non rusty ones... Mine was taken back with a wire brush attachment, then treated with bilt hamber , primed, sprayed, new screen in.

Edit to say - do get it done if at all poss, a pillers and screen form quite an important part of the structural rigidity and strength TBH.

Well I'm hoping it's as simple as that then lol

Still though I've not got to the bottom of why I have plastic trim not rubber and if I can have rubber?

All my 4ths have been plastic with a thin rubber strip underneath, 5th gens are full rubber.

Couldn't post pics up off both so we can see what your meaning?

Yeah we have to get rid of the rust first :) it's on my list babe lol.

do you rate the bilt hammer stuff?? I'm some acid from eBay at the mo for all the rusty parts. But it's runny that bilt hammer is a gel isn't?
