from memory, long blinks are 10 and short are 1 ?
Yes bud.
So hopefully it will be 7 long and 4 short (74) followed by crazy fast flashing sequence

I had that with a 4g and it turned out to be the warning light solenoid in the rear lights and a bulb that worked intermittently because the filament waved about touching sometimes

Morning, just did the codes, jumped the little blue connector, my 4WS light blinked 7 long and 4 short, then repeated this message
so that should be error code 74

Yes. So there's nothing wrong with your 4ws, it's deliberately locking out because it thinks the handbrake is on, so that means you can forget about the 4ws and just need to get the handbrake light problem sorted :D

if it's a handbrake issue, would that also make the brake lamp light come on ?

hmmm,i could have worn i read a post somewhere out there about grounding a wire on the lights to make the dash lights go out if everything on the brakes are actually working properly
maybe if the car thinks all is ok (everything does actually work) then it won't kick out my 4WS
