best bb4 brakes??

Post by JEBB4 » Thu May 22, 2014 7:44 am

hello guys and girls,
so started driving my bb4 like a clown abit now and the brakes are completely bum droppings when they get hot.
Disc's must be severely warped as the juddering im getting when they warm up is stupid and yesterday they got so hot they completely stopped working (brake fade is not fun at 90mph  )

so im wanting new disc's and pads and im woundering what will handle abit of punishment?
Also best brake fluid?

Any help or previous experience appreciated! :)

Not used them myself people people seem to recommend DS2500 pads and brembo blank discs

I had BD Predator pads on OEM discs and they were fine for road use, but think once @w1ggz took it out on track after I sold it they didn't hold up very well

That may have been due to me not having done any track action before and being on the brakes too long,
I'm still playing about with brakes at the moment so can't really suggest and disc and pad setup.
I would at least run rbf600 brake fluid if you are tracking it

For fast road and mild track I recommend blank discs (OEM, EBC, Brembo, Delphi etc..) and Hawk HP+ or Ferodo DS2500 pads with Castrol Castrol React Performance Dot 4 fluid (much cheaper than Motul RBF600). Braided hoses help a lot.

Have you had a look to see if your brakes are binding at all?

Thanks guys,
Ive heard some good things about them Mintex pads @Merlin so I think il go for them and a set of dimpled and grooved discs as I know that fully drilled discs just crack.

Naa brakes arent binding at all, I had a lot of issues with my civic with binding had to rebuild the calipers etc

Yes @nitin_s1 future plans are for the twin pot accord set up but for time being standard size/set up will have to do..

What Mintex pads? I have regular Mintex pads on the front of my 5th and I doubt they would hold up to excess abuse. They are ok for general driving.

Personally I don't think the extra cost for dimpled and grooved is justified over blank discs when used in an OEM setup. Plus I think the need to clean the face of the pad of is much lower through the Prelude pad being relatively small.

If you planning to go for ATR setup just go for it stright away. Pads are the same, discs cost similar money so you looking only for calipers itself on top. Last auction I seen on ebay they went for around £70.
Just think about it. And used discs you will sell for nothing.
