Did you not have comprehensive insurance on it then?

I hate a bring a downer on things, but you will need to claim anyway as no doubt you will get a bill for damaged crash barriers.

Mate, I feel your pain. I once hired a very high spec high price Digital audio processor from a local PA company.

proceeded to put it in my amp rack and trundle off down to bodmin moor for a massive rave that went on for three days. then got the rig seized by the baconbrigade on the way out...... I had to call the company (who i had good relation with being a smaller company in my own right) and cough up 2.5k for a brand new one on the tuesday once I got home as they needed it the next day for a very importand festival set up.

I had to wait 3 months and spend 2 grand in solicitors fees to get the rig back.......... I was lucky, 5 others got burned

Still, like you i ended up with a pucker piece of kit that i found use for.

Bloody harsh though

but what else can you do as a stand up bloke? You are taking responsibility for it and you deserve a big pat on the back for that. Buying the whole thing is the furthest you could go and you went there.

His car is covered under his trader policy - I can't expect him to claim for his own car and affect his insurance premiums. I was driving it under my 'driving other cars' extension on (take your pick from 2) fully comp policies. I haven't double-checked the policies yet (bloody online policy documents instead of a booklet I can just open up at home

) but they normally only provide third party cover.

Yep I'm expecting a bill for the arnco. I had a QS at work price it up at about £1k being a reasonable figure. I had wondered about asking the PC to go and fix it for me as a favour, but a) that wouldn't be ethical and I'm a straight down the line kinda guy, absolutely don't go in for brown envelopes etc. b) we're currently arguing over quarter mil claims for CEs, plus another £300k potential LD's, so they probably wouldn't be inclined to help atm even if I did ask

I'm undecided whether to put that through the insurance or not. Will see what the bill is when it actually comes through (if it comes - always a chance they won't get their act together

). I'd still have to pay excess and then there's the future loading on multiple insurance premiums for the next 5 years to think of, so after all that it may not be worth it in the end. If I'm borrowing to buy the car anyway, might as well go the extra for the whole hog.

I suppose I should go back and collect the scrap arnco to weigh it in really, if I'm gonna end up paying for it!

There might be a white BB4 up for sale in the near future after all - we'll see!

1k for the armco, seems too cheap, you'll spoend that on fees, RAMS and traffic management alone.......

It's already a construction site for installation of the arnco - that's why there were handy traffic cones still there!

So as far as I'm concerned (making a fair and reasonable assessment...) all that stuff is already in place and they simply need to come along and replace 2 posts and bolt in 3 sections of barrier. It's a very simple job AFAIC?

If they do want to be silly about it though, I'll do the bloody RAMS and set out and remove the cones for them!
Heck - I'll even deliver the material to site!!!

Just to be clear though, I'm posting up for people's interest really or in case anyone has any suggestions, not because I'm after attention or sympathy - It's my mess, I need to clear it up, end of - LLL summed that up perfectly I think.

It's gonna be expensive but meh, I just have to sort that somehow.
It's not a big deal in comparison to aggro caused to 2 mates and the mrs (who arrived on the scene a minute later to see the Landie her bf was driving, facing the wrong way buried in the arnco - not fun for her

)

Just in my experience, the Highways Agency and Local Authorities can only procure works and repairs via approved frameworks and tender routes, so you may not be given the opportunity to make good at all. The repair works may not even be given to the same contractor who is doing the improvement works currently. You may find they just repair and send the bill to you and there is no room for negotiation or discussion regarding the reasonableness of any costs.

Yeah, government agencies love tying themselves up in framework agreements where they get nothing but stiffed by commercial contractors, don't they... I'd forgotten about that!
I'll check up with the Police what info they're passing onto the Highways Agency and give them a call to find out what they're doing I guess. Sort of a double edged sword here - if I do nothing there's a chance they won't be efficient enough to pursue me for the cost, whereas if I call them they will do but I might be able to have some influence over the costs heading my way...

Anyone on here know anyone in the commercial department at the Highways Agency by any chance???
