Rubber wear! Can't figure the problem

Post by PreludeFarr » Fri May 16, 2014 2:53 am

Hello, this is my first post so I'd like to just say a little about my Prelude before I start.
I've had the car for a year and a half now. It is a 1998 SH model and have done some work to it, I've added lambo door hinges, two amps and 4 subwoofers, underglow, foot lighting and lights in the vent. I

I've recently got 18' rims and brand new tires put on them, BUT before I put them on my car I want to fix a problem I've had since I got it. My driver side tire has either its camber or toe is way off, therefore the top of my tire sticks much to far under my fender.

Now I have recently replaced the wheel bearings in the front aswell as all the ball joints on the driver side, where my problem is. Half a year back I went for an alignment and the shop told me they couldn't adjust it to be in spec so they got it as close as it could..

Now last week I blew my passenger front tire, the inside wear pattern was disgusting, now my driver side has the very awkward looking tire,
First of all, I know an alignment won't fix it, so would my driver side tire being as it is wear the passenger side like it did?
Also, i read that the tie rod linkage could fix my issue, so if I do replace my inner and outer tie rod ends could an alignment then fix the issue?
Lastly, I've wanted to add front camber kits to my SH lude but seems most kits are for the base model. (Since I am putting a 215/35R18 tire on soon I want to ensure the inner rubber does not rub on the fender) could anyone point me to a quality camber kit either for the control arm or for a ball joint replacement. Thank you!!

TBH it sounds like the alignment place you took it to did a crap job. If they cant get the alignment sorted they should be able to tell you why it cant be sorted. Alignment is a complex issue so I would find another alignment place to do it properly.

Thank you, now should I get my alignment done with the stock 16's I am using before I load my 18's to make sure a 'proper' shop can get it within spec.

Today I took a look at my front left wheel and components, I believe the tie rod ends are stock as they are rusted to the tits and likely seized for adjustment. May be the reason the shop couldn't fix it? As to my knowledge tie rod ends adjust my wheels 'toe'.

Thanks for the help!!

Welcome.

Firstly, can you post some pictures so we can see the problem and how bad?

Secondly, have you lowered the car at all?

Thirdly, you say you want to sort the current camber problem so you get even tyre wear, but then fit a camber kit? :? Doesn't that make the first part counterproductive, so you end up back at square 1, in which case you might aswell leave things where they are atm? Or have I missed something...

Sorry for the confusion. I will take pictures tomorrow morning when I get a chance, and it is running stock springs and shocks. No plans on lowering at all.

My intentions are simply to ensure a smooth ride for years to come, so if I don't have to put a camber kit on I won't.

Pictures will be posted shortly.

If the car is not lowered and it can't be aligned to spec, then something must be bent or damaged somewhere.

Hi mate, only supporters can upload attachments. Best bet is to chuck them into photobucket and link them from there.

Misleading title. I had my suggestions of talcum powder and silicone spray all ready.

Welcome in. I'm sure these knowledgeable chaps will see you right soon.

Also, excuse me asking, but why do you need to light your feet?
