Split droplink bush mot fail?

Post by Bludge » Tue May 13, 2014 8:00 pm

I had a quick check over of my car today before the mot and noticed one of the bushes on the front droplink is split right through, im guessing this will be a fail?

Debatable... It probably should be, but as long as there's no movement in the droplink you might get away with it as an advisory? (I've been surprised about how bad some of these bushes can be, but not got a mention!)

Given the state of mine last year, I'd think it will pass ;)

ok hopefully it will be an advisory. it is split right through though. like you could prise it off if you wanted to.

cheap part yes, but readily available from motor factors? no :x.
booked in on thursday morning so was hoping to get some at work tomorrow and do it in the evening but it doesnt look like we do them.

are the 5th gen ones the same by any chance? might help me in picking some up tomorrow.

Yes it SHOULD pass. If they fail it on that I'd want them to explain why ;). What you all have to remember is that an MOT is a bear MINIMUM standard. The only way a drop link would fail is if a) it's broken b) it seriously affects the handling of the vehicle or c) a drop link ball joint boot is split wide open. I should not worry about a split bush :)

No problem. One thing they also taught me when I did my MOT license is that if you do have a split open boot, you can even pass it if it's been taped up with electrical tape for example  as it would prevent the ingress of water and/or dirt

Yes really. I was as shocked as the smiley pic . As long as it prevents the ingress of water and or dirt, it can pass. Obviously it's all up to the testers discretion at the end of the day but yea, it would act as a boot!!
