yes its a sore subject, im currently working in cardiff for somebody else as im not allowed to open a garage where i am due to landlord rules and there is already one garage on the estate. i can work from there but im not allowed to open to the general public, its currently a very expensive storage shed. i am waiting for planning approval on a purpose built place but its going to be a while by the seems, 6 months ish ? :(

anyway moving along quickly

Yeah, that engine looks mint! Great paintwork.

I watched these videos a couple of weeks ago, really good as they show you the amount of work involved cleaning up an engine full of gunk. Quite an eye opener.

The trick is to make sure you have leaks.

This is so that your top ups over the oil change interval equal the volume of a full change, saving you having to actually change the whole lot in one sitting. Think of it like you're performing micro-changes, constantly refreshing your lubricant to ensure a consistent quality level rather than an exponentially degrading one.

It saves you time, money and energy. Only a fool would argue against this logic.

That's how I justify my Prelude's oil burning as well! Went through half a litre on my last track day but you know its always really fresh because you're always topping it up!

Marketing trick. In the words of Public Enemy, don't believe the hype. Filters are a gimmick. Over time what is in there will solidify and stay there. Then you get to the fresh-oil-all-the-time stage.

If you're constantly refreshing the oil, why do you need to filter it? It comes filtered in the bottle. Like I said, if you get the rate right you'll pretty much always have fresh oil. I mean if you want you can overdo it a bit and have a leak so that you have to replace at a volume/rate that is pre-OEM recommendation.

Think of the human body. Red blood cells are made in bone marrow, then recycled in the spleen. There's no real filter. You might say the kidneys but really they're not that good since they let stuff back in. The liver is overhyped too, it's meant to break down toxins but half the time it makes things worse. Pop a load of co-codamol and it turns them into morphine. And look where that gets people.

So if the body doesn't have a good filter (and evolution exists and would give us one if it was necessary), then why does an engine?
