Driving on the continent
Driving on the continent
Hi guys - I'm driving my Lude 4G 2.3 down to Munich next weekend. It's the most reliable car I have, so fingers crossed it will get me there!
Does anyone have any tips for driving through France and Germany? Do I need warning triangles, etc.? Do I need cash for plod if I get pulled over for speeding?
Any thoughts welcome!
cheers,
David

In terms of the actual driving, I did a similar trip for my first time driving on the continent a few years ago. You'll be surprised at how quickly you adapt to driving on the right. First time you go to overtake a lorry on the motorway, everything in your head will tell you not to do it!!

A common beginner's mistake is to pull out on the wrong side of the road from eg: a filling station, especially when tired. I think most people only do this once ... even if they get away with it.
I also know of drivers who manage perfectly well - until they get back to the UK and forget where they are.
Honestly, too much is often made of the supposed difficulties.
The AA list is useful. If you're in the car, you need to carry your papers. As for speed cameras, many countries now have an arrangement with the UK where they'll pursue the fine.

I thought you needed a breathalyser in your car when in France, just a cheap ebay thing will do. And I believe you need a warning triangle and an orange roadworker style vest in Gemany. But my guess is that the AA got tat all figured out for you

Hivi for all passengers, triangle, fire extinguisher (I always have it), at least 2 breath analysers, spare light bulbs set, first aid kit. Law is still changing so some of this may be no longer required. Anyway when I go back home (Poland) I have all of this.
In most places in germany on motorway there is no speed limit. I love this country for only this reason
