Inner track rod joints...
Post by Stevelar_granolar » Thu Apr 24, 2014 8:16 pm
Anyone got any tips on the best method or tool to use to get the inner track rods off the steering rack?

Coincidentally I was defeated by mine tonight. I didn't see a lock washer on mine, but the 14mm spanner was just slipping around the rack end
Need me some mole grips...

Yeh im aware of the lock washer, didnt know if people used a special sleeve socket to stop the rod spinning or wether access was good enough for mole grips or possibly even a pipe wrench. Cheers for confirming though!

Nathan, if your removing the inner joint, putting the spanner there will do you no good anyway, as the ball joint will just spin in its socket, you need to put a spanner on the large flats that sit in the area covered by the gaiter boot.

The lock washer sits on the first step after the thread on the left, and you can put a spanner/grips on the second step.

Ahh, we're trying to achieve different things then sorry. I'm trying to remove the rod end so I can replace the boot.
