Piggy back fuses?

Am I right in thinking that if you use one of these, for instance in the slot for the front lights, power will be supplied though its cable so you can power another device and that power will only come on when you turn the front lights on?

Yeah man, that's my understanding of how they work. If in doubt, wap a multimeter across the fuse and see if you only get 12v when the main switch is toggled.

My 4th has a shed load of my custom wiring and things are starting to get messy. These will hopefully clear it up a bit.

Some circuits will have the fuse live permanently, and some circuits will have the fuse only live after switching something on.

As indigolemon said, if in doubt, put a multimeter on the fuse and see what happens

I'll be putting it through a switch as well. It is only for a low voltage LED rain light.

Although my wiring jobs aren't bad this cant be any worse surely?

This is a good idea. I can rewite my gauges from the fuse box instead of tapping into the clock.

They're perfectly safe and you can source a 12v source straight from the distribution board, even new circuits off the numerous spares the board has. As for finding the power after a switch, not 100%, depends on the circuit and checking the wiring diagrams. I set up new circuits with mine so didn't really look at them.
