Re: Project Back To The Future - 3G Aerodeck
I was thinking of just getting some kind of rubber trim from Shuttleworth Hot Rod show, the original trim is actually quite thick and stands out from the outside, I'd say a good few mm thick.mercutio wrote:try the beetle wing gasket or just use something like silicone or tigerseal i have seen the vw guys use it not just on bugs on type 2's
The beetle stuff does look quite thick though, I'll have to ask around the VAG scene and see if anyone has any I can try before I buy!

Re: Project Back To The Future - 3G Aerodeck
They came! One is a little damaged but nothing that can't be sorted, just a few chips...
They have all come off of different cars too. Ordered them Monday evening so how they walked round, picked the best, got them off carefully, packaged and posted them and had them arrive from Cornwall to near Cambridge in pretty much 2 days is unreal!!!

Sorry the pictures aren't great and I was way too excited trying them against the car to get any pics - plus I'd worked up a sweat getting them unpackaged

I'll try to get some photos of them held up against the car tonight or over the weekend, but they fit spot on - almost like they were made for it, the little bits at the front [is there a technical term for them?] actually match up to the bumper, and on the rear too the swage line matches up to the bumper! So ridiculously happy and excited, can you tell?

Not the kind of thing you should be saying on this forum with the likes of lxstuart around.becca wrote:plus I'd worked up a sweat getting them unpackaged![]()

Re: Project Back To The Future - 3G Aerodeck
Pictures are here!!! LOTS of them... Not great mind, and sorry none of me bent over holding them up
First off this is how the wheels fitted on the spare with standard arches...

First image is the other side, so showing how it would usually look against the side that has them mocked up!

Decided the best option is to make them all two piece flares, so one part attaches to the wing and the other to the bumper, as it means less flex if anyone bumps into the bumpers at any point as the flares are only fibreglass, and it just looks better IMO.

Looks uhh... different in the mirror now

Re: Project Back To The Future - 3G Aerodeck
I'm definitely going lower it's standard ride height right now hahaha! I want basically a tiny bit of gap between the tyre and the arch flares once I get coilovers.NafemanNathan wrote:Sure has got potential![]()
Need to see a side shot with Éclat rims on with it fully dropped.
Out of interest are those the correct size tyres on the Eclats and are you going lower?
And they're 185s but I'm putting 195s on them, that was just a used tyre laying around so I could gauge it haha! I don't want no stretch
