Re: The Hummock - '71 Beetle Rod Project
That was one of the original plans, go scooby lump, but the bell housing is £400 which isn't too bad. The issue is that the gearbox I'd need is about £1200!!!!!!Fons[DutchGuy] wrote:So your in search for some jappower in it? Why not subaru engine? Ive heard they pretty much bolt on a normal vw tranny

So instead, I'll build my own engine up with 1641 barrels and pistons (go from 1584cc to 1641cc) and high ratio 1.25:1 rockers. Eventually I'd want an Engle W120 cam as well as a 78mm crank (up the displacement to 1850cc). I'll be able to get the 1641 and 1.25:1 rockers as well as new pushrods and tubes (mine are leaking) for about £350, so less than the cost of the adaptor for a scooby engine.

Re: The Hummock - '71 Beetle Rod Project
Problem is that my gearbox won't cope with 200hp. I'd need the 6-rib box from a bus, and they're stupidly expensive, so I'll just spend that money instead on just tuning up the engine I've got.
For the cost of the gearbox, I can do the 1641 and 1.25:1 rocker conversions, replace the push rods, put new front ball joints on, and do front drop spindles to drop the front end a couple of inches.

Yea, then take into account the mounts, having to fit and set up rear suspension, just not worth the hassle.
