Take the boot off. Remove the circlip. Put a socket bigger than the ball joint on the flat side. The put a socket the same size as the ball joint over the part with the thread. Then big hammer whack it  I pressed my new one in. But if ur carefull you can whack it back in. But make sure it goes in same way as the old one came out, as in the way the joint moves :? ;)

Result!!

Just swapped the passenger wishbone for my old one, and the knocking improved drastically! still a tiny amount of play when i really give it a pull and still knocking a litlle from that side, but the ball joint doesnt look much better then the one i took off.

So 2 new ball joints to get pressed in and hopefully i will be able to enjoy driving her again after many months! :D

one last question @Thebusofwoe, where is the circlip located? i removed the boot but couldnt see a circlip. is it on the flat side or the joint side? had a go at smashing it out but didnt go very well. was considering getting a ball joint press kit to save me taking it all somewhere to get them to swap the joints.

Well i wasnt just being blind, the old joints didnt have the circlips on them! managed to smash them out in the end.

Had a crack at hammering the new ones in but wasnt enjoying it much! went and got them pressed in at a garage and all fitted back to the car now.

Knocking is completely gone!! :D
I was half expecting it to be better but then to be able to hear something else knocking but its quiet as a mouse now! so happy!

Next up is the oil leak.... :x

Thanks to everyone who offered up help and advice!
