I assumed that was correct as my Motegi came with those tyres and I have kept buying them, although I prefer the look of the 215/40/17R tyre. As bb1boy said your tyres are the first (and arguably) the most important part of your suspension, so the larger size gives more comfort on bad roads.
I had these tyres stretched onto my new 17x8 alloys and they still fit pretty well but might go for something wider when they need changed.

I don't really agree. I think Honda recommend 205-50 for the standard 16" wheels? This gives a circumference of 1844mm. A 205-45-17 is only 15mm bigger at 1859mm. That's about 2.5mm on the radius - about the same as a new tyre compared to a half worn one.bb1boy wrote:Well my aim was to match the diameter of the OEM wheels and tyres, and the 215/40/17 does this, I think people choose the 45 profile for a little extra comfort.
205-40-17 has a circumference of 1797mm, so is a approx. 15mm smaller on the overall diameter.
Its all very minor though, with little difference on the speedo. 70mph on 205-50-16 will equate to 70.56mph on 45-17 or 68.22mm on 40-17s.
EDIT. Sorry. I was using figures based on 205 rather than 215 as mentioned.
