RUBBAGE!! (no not that kind)

Post by NCCMUR » Mon Mar 17, 2014 7:30 pm

alright guys
having fitted the lowered suspension last summer (eibachs and standard shocks) whilst running original 16" wheels,
i decided to refit my ep3 wheels.now i knew the offset was slightly different but thought it would be ok.
fitted them and everything was fine to start with, but whilst reversing on full lock the tyres dug into the rear arches :x
so went to work the following day and attacked the arches with a grinder and took them back to almost flush with the outer skin of the quarter.
sorted ,i thought but now with two rear passengers its still rubbing, not as bad, but still there nonetheless
current tyres are 215/45/17, would reducing the width of the tyre make any difference?ie 205s instead? dont really want to change back to 16s or remove the lowered suspension
cheers for any ideas.

Is it rubbing on the rear bumper tabs?

You can relocate the tab about 2" further back. Just drill a new bolt hole and gring off the plastic bumper so its flush.

Im lower, wider in wheel by 1" and offset but alot but same size tyre but the wider AD08 and no rubby dubby do dar.

i took the tabs off when i fitted the lowered suspension ratty so its not catching that, plus your S doesnt have 4ws does it?
its when its on full lock with weight in the back its JUST catching the top of the outer edge of tyre tread
not a major problem just annoying the tits off me!

If you put different makes of tyres in front of each other for example a goodyear then a bridgestone ur find even thou there 215 45 17 there not exactly the same width , i know u will think im mad but honest i worked with tyres for years an there not the same size exactly :D

Your right. Some tyres have a squarer sidewall and give more tread.

215/45/17 ad08 have a face or just under 225 where some tyres have less than 215/45 and is closer to 210/45.

Yer no 4Ws. Did you cut the whole tab off or just part of it?

Might not be the problem but the whole tab needs to come off and that holes moving back 1" or 2.
