2ws conversion and MOT

Post by Bludge » Mon Mar 17, 2014 4:50 pm

i have converted my 4ws into 2ws, but i was wondering what the deal will be when it comes to the mot.
I havent taken the 4ws dash bulb out yet, so the fact that it stays on constantly will be a fail, right? even though the rest of the 4ws system has been removed.
Same if i take the bulb out and it doesnt light up at all im guessing?

So how do i get around this? wire the bulb into something else so it will come on and go of when then engine starts?

Also i still have all the wiring tied up to the anti roll bar, is that going to be a problem with the mot?

I doubt 4WS is part of the MOT test.

Take the bulb out mate. If the system is not there then it can not be tested for mot. Same with abs. Take it out, cant be tested, so long as the light isn't on ;) Also, i thought that when the ecu comes out the bulb doesn't light up anyway :?

I think your only option would be to fit a cluster from a 2WS 'Lude ..if it indeed is a problem at MOT time.

No but the dash warning lights are, and im worried that the dash lights have to behave as expected if they are there, regardless of wether the rest of the system is attached to it! lol.

Well that would be the sensible way to see it, but im half expecting them to be testing the warning light rather then the actual system. and no it would seem that the light stays on when you remove the ecu!

Dont really want to spend out on that unless i can get 2ws el dials on the cheap. must be something i can wire it into so it comes on and goes off if it is a problem. like just tap into another of the warning lights or something?

Yea they shouldn't test the system if its not fitted. So 'system' refers to the whole thing, lights as well. So its 'not applicable' if the light isn't there ;)

But of Corse this is all based on the testers discrepancy. If it was me testing it, i would pass it, no problem.

Remove the bulb and that's it. You can always say that you have changed dials and this was the only available at that moment. Also if they say there is an issue with your 4ws tell them to show you what is wrong.

My car pass its MOT last year with 4ws dash light on. Tomorrow I go to the same garage

Not all, ABS etc.. yes, but I am pretty sure even the CEL being on is not an MOT fail. @3rd gen steve is an MOT tester & mechanic.

I am sure the 4WS light is not considered an immediate risk like faulty ABS (although it should be ;))
