I too agree, that 9/10 times you will quite happily clean it out and it work fine. The amount we clean out and work fine after is alot ;). It basically has be fecked to need replacing. Don't give up untill you have absolutely covered everything. :D

Well as a Honda expert like your neighbour I suggest you pick the whole car up,turn it upside down and shake it and see what drops out!
Over the years that I have been a member of this forum and another one I have seen many posts like yours. If you follow the advice given here you will get the emissions down I am sure!

Yea it's ok for any EGR system. It's just a little stronger than normal old EGR cleaner. You will smell what I mean when u use it . It's fine for petrol motors. :D

So yea... I bought another engine in the end for handy money and the guys at Enfield Crash Repairs in Enfield fitted it and stuck on my after market exhaust yesterday and fired her through the MOT today and she flew it, I'm gonna get flamed for not cleaning the EGR valve and changing lambda sensors but I was working 6 days a week and I'm out the door at 6 and not home till after 7 and just didnt have the time to look for parts and my tax was up today so had to sort it
Anyway new engine pulls well and there was no leaks or damaged when the boys in the garage inspected it, I will be moving to another site in the next few weeks and I will be back to normal 5 day week and I can clean the EGR valve and change the Lambda sensor and any other bits
