Mot due, aftermarket exhaust will pass?
Post by Turbomick1985 » Sat Jan 18, 2014 6:37 pm
Mot is due in February, I got new wheels and tyres (the old ones need refurb) I've got new springs coming (the front right offside is cracked) last time I was in garage he said my exhaust was knackered, I would like to get a nice shiney new one same style as the standard one but I'm worried it will fail Mot should I just stick a standard one on it? Or can I have the nice shiney one

Shiny one should be fine as long as it's solid front to back.

I got an MOT failure last year for "exhaust noise is clearly in excess of that emitted by a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition [7.1.4]"
I had to put my original back box back on.
The system it failed on was a Powerflow with two silencers and brand new cat.

Looks like your mot place was just trying to find a reason to fail you

There is no set niise level, its down to the discretion ofnthe tester. This if for an mot although there is a limit on the road

Hand brake imbalance will be a genuine failure. That's not a subjective measurement, it's measured by calibrated machine and Honda rear calipers of that era are known for the handbrake going crap as they get older.
Pad carriers will need stripping, cleaning, greasing and reassembling and you'll probably find the handbrake lever to cable pivot pin is seized as well.
