knocking/rattle from rear.

Post by Bludge » Sun Jan 05, 2014 7:07 pm

i have a knocking/rattling sound coming from the rear of my 4th gen. not too bad on speed bumps if i hit them straight on, but potholes or uneven roads it makes a hell of a noise. i had a knocking on the drivers side before doing the 2ws swap, now its on both sides.

i have just changed the drop links, and i will get the car in the air when its dry and double check i have torqued everything up, and looking at the manual i dont think i have missed putting in bushes anywhere. i will also be trying the shock knock cure when i can.
i will also be changing the bumper back to stock as its an awful fit and im wondering if it might be contributing.
*edit* was thinkingni will replace the arb bushes too.

can anyone suggest any other possible causes?

yeah gonna do that when its dry. but just seemed strange it was only one side before the 2ws swap, then both sides and a lot louder after.

just want to explore every avenue when i go to tackle it as its driving me mad!

i googled halfords body repair washers as it states in the shock knock guide. they are metal shims, is that right? for dome reason i had it in my mind that they were like rubber washers.

Yeah just a couple of metal washers. If not shock knock could it be anti roll bar drop links?

only replaced them a couple of weeks and about 5 miles ago, so im thinking i can rule them out. what about ball joints, can they cause knocking?
