Good cars these.
Nb: I know what you're getting at with the insurance note, but fully comp insurance is irellevant because cover on driving other cars is always 3rd party only and not all fully comp insurances provide cover for driving other cars (so don't assume anything there)

No, what Iain is saying is that most fully comp policies that allow you to drive cars other than the ones stated on the policy only provide third party cover when driving another car.K30DPC wrote:Wait a moment. So I don't have to be fully comp to drive others car?

Yep. I think actually my policy on the Prelude says I'm not covered for other cars even though I am fully comp.

Might be an age thing? I know you're only slightly older than than me, and everywhere I try won't add the cover for other cars option for folks under 25. Proper gay thatDonald wrote:Yep. I think actually my policy on the Prelude says I'm not covered for other cars even though I am fully comp.

*edit
I should add that with my current insurer Diamond, if I phone them up I can (and have) added temporary cars when I've needed to. Cost me £17 for a weeks cover last time. Only problem is that I think you're not supposed to have 2 insurance policies on a car, yet they've never questioned it when I've added family member's already insured cars to my policy

*double edit
I should additionally add that my policy is third party fire and theft, but I can still add temporary cars.

Yep. It's to meet minimum legal requirements for insurance cover or driving another car but nothing more, because your insurance premium is based on the risk analysis of you as driver and the car you've declared on that insurance. They can't assess whatever other random cars you might drive, so they don't provide cover for them (otherwise everyone would take out a policy on a fiesta, pay peanuts and then drive Ferrari's).jjmartin349571 wrote:No, what Iain is saying is that most fully comp policies that allow you to drive cars other than the ones stated on the policy only provide third party cover when driving another car.K30DPC wrote:Wait a moment. The insurance cover on place on the other vehicle provides cover for that vehicle itself. This also also avoids the possibilty of double claims for single incidents.
So if you drove my car and had an accident, your insurance would pay for what you hit, my insurance would pay for the damage/loss on my car (if they accepted the claim).
Norwich Union used to provide a bike policy that was based solely on the rider (called a 'rider' policy) not on the bike. They were great value and popular. Didn't work out well for Norwich Union though, so were withdrawn many yonks ago!

And possibly JJ, although I think on a previous policy I could. May just be my current insurers. Either way I'm 25 now so when renewal comes around we'll see

Yes, I know, it's more for stating they will have to have fully comp to cover this car, ie a day policy to take a test drive.wurlycorner wrote:Nb: I know what you're getting at with the insurance note, but fully comp insurance is irellevant because cover on driving other cars is always 3rd party only and not all fully comp insurances provide cover for driving other cars (so don't assume anything there)
