oooh I love my 3G!

Post by Ninjabreadman » Thu Dec 26, 2013 10:37 pm

Hello. Haven't been on a forum in AGES, but I adore my 3G since I bought it 6 months ago for a crazy 500 quid so I feel compelled to mingle with similar minded people again! (I had no idea these depreciated that much because it's so much car for the cash).

Amongst a long history of modified dailys I've already owned a '96 Civic VTi, a 2000 DC2 Type R and a '91 (9k redline) SiR CRX so I was well aware of how good Hondas are but I'm totally smitten with my Lude! It's like a hybrid between the CRX and the Integra! Well pleased!

Anyway, some pics of my progress to date...

when I got it:

after I fitted some BD Racing coilovers and some 7.5x16 OZ Fittipaldi's with MASSIVE 225/50 rubber! (I was trying to go for a track look but it drove horribly!)

a 'custom' gear knob I fitted

When I dropped the tyre sizes to 185/55 and 195/55 (which was originally intended for 8&9j 16's)

and with some 7.5&8.5j 17 BBS's I picked up just before crimbo :D

I've done a full service and changed a lot of bits already but the clutch has gone now though so it's off the road, it also needs a CV joint and a belt/pump change. After that I'll so sorting the rust by fitting some Xenon skirts then painting the bottom half matte black...

By the way I had the suspension set up when it was fitted and it's running roughly 1.5 front and 3 degrees of camber at the rear.

It's been a busy 6 months, what do you think? :D

Nice one, you're obviously willing to experiment with your wheel and tyre combinations, do you find any improvement over the oe standard ones? You'll also find images of my 3g auto which I posted recently, mines a facelift b20 a7 '91 model

Looks really good although i hope the rust will be fully removed before the skirts.
ALso not sure on the stretched tyres. Wheels look great with the car though.

The 225's drove horrible, the 185/195's were good but it felt a bit floaty if that makes sense - small contact patch I guess! The bbs 's came with 205/45's all round, which seem pretty well suited but the clutch went after only being on 1 day so the jury's still out on that. I'd like to drop the front to 195/45's but I'm tempted to stay with equal widths to retain a good drive.

I'm intended to cut all the rust out and cover the hole with the skirts rather than having to have the whole area rebuilt. It does seem like rust is real problem with these, but hopefully the surgery won't be too major. I'll ensure its all structurally sounds of course. Just a bit concerned about the importance costs as I can only seem to get the skirts from bodykits complications! If anyone knows of a UK supplier I'd love to know about it!

Nice looking 3rd there mate. 8-)

I've got a 1990/H 3G, and was unsure about which tyre size to go for when I get some alloys mid next year. But now, having seen what you've experimented with, I am certain it will be 7.5J's with 215/45 R17 tyres all round. So cheers for that. ;)

Those 50 profile tyres are chunky as hell!

Still not sure about which 'ET' to go for though..probably ET38, but I want the wheels to stick out flush with the body, so maybe ET25 or something. What are yours? Cos they sit quite flush. 8-)

Oh yeah, and welcome to LG! Look forward to seeing the progress - and where you get your sideskirts from too.

Where have you been looking so far?

And where are you based?
