I quite like a lot of 80's cars - largely because I spent my childhood rolling around in them!
If I had space, I'd love to commence saving quite a few of these ...

And boy did the rear arches on those rot out!prelude91 wrote:Cavalier Mk2 SRI 130, had that for 14 years, did 240k miles largely troublefree, rare as rocking horse now, and it did 45 mpg on a run, but , boy, were they basic, not even p.a.s.

It must be said, the Vauxhaul OHV engines were far, far more gutsy and durable than the equivalent Ford Engines of the time (CVH possibly the most crap engine ever made?!). Refined is something they definitely weren't though!
And did the Cavalier have the crappest steering lock ever?

I'm quite possibly sick in the head, but I fancy trying to find a Montego once I have space to play with a car

Yes, the rear arches did rot like a pear, main reason for letting mine go, replaced by my 3g 13 and a bit years ago, I actually sold it for 800 quid, 'cos the speedo went back to zero at 9999k he thought it had done 125k not 225k!! he was a complete cavalier nut. The rear arches went, as they were two piece, seamed at 12 o'clock and moisture used to get in. The sri 130 was the beefier cranked german opel engine not the Vauxhall 2.0l so much more robust, different oil filter tho' so had to be careful when ordering. Last saw her on Winchester RD. pulled by the plod, driven by a spotty 17 year old with girlfriend and baby in tow, scrapped now according to DVLA. she was black anthracite over glacier white, with white pepperpot (ish) wheels, all other colour combinations came with silver wheels.

Alfa's rot because they're Italian and they used to wheel them from the assembly shop, I to the paint shop via the outside!
Just realised that 7 of my cars are from the 80's
Maybe I should ask for some shoulder pads and pop socks for Christmas?
