oil leak :(

Hi guys got a small problem

Got up to bath then Bristol and I have a leak.
It's gone from max to under the min done about 180miles
It wasn't leaking before I did the oil change so I think I havnt tightened the oil plug up enough. That or its too tight and cracked the sump :/ I made sure it wasn't too tight so it may be loose. Shall I take it to a garage before I set back or shall I top it up and check up on it on the way back?

Not a good situation to be in so far from home lol

check tightness of drain bolt, plus signs of leaking from around it, tighten it up asap with a spanner before driving it further and top up to max

agreed! plus check the tightness of your sump bolts as when mine was tuned they were slack as f**k lol

there's bound to be a trail of oil somewhere, wherever the leak is coming from, if the sump plug is loose, you were f'in lucky it didn't come completely out at speed, no oil, no engine, you may find the sump bolt has previously been replaced cross-threaded, my 3g has had this since my ownership, oil changes are therefore done by syphoning the old oil out, rather than draining from the plug itself

Did you do the sump plug up with a torque wrench? Check all over the block for the leak mate, better safe than sorry. Did you change the filter as well? I know I found it difficult to tighten mine by hand when I did it, access isn't brilliant. Iirc your block was rebuilt not too long ago, so I'd have thought any trace of oil from a leak would show up fairly easily?

How did you get on rob? As others have said, I'd have thought an oil leak that bad should be quite easy to spot and identify the source of. If you post up pics on here I'm sure we could help too.

Also, did you replace the crush washer when you put the sump plug back in?

To crack a steel sump takes some doing so I doubt you done that mate. Could be your oil filter if you ent done that up tight enough

Went to kwikfit in Bristol (kwikfit friends

) put it on their ramp...... Pissing out the sump gasket

They've given me 5 litres after we topped it up and I'm stopping every 40-50 miles to check as its going from max to halfway between then.

So tomorrow's gana be a busy day. Remove the exhaust manifold and the centre subfrane part by the looks of it.
Weird how it didn't do this before I did the oil change :/
I don't know if cpa or euros will have the gasket but it looks as if it's been sealed with copper sealent or something similar

Not ideal so far from home :L
