November 2013

Post by Rich » Tue Nov 05, 2013 4:32 pm

The last time I updated this I was considering selling up, but decided against it... anyway my lude has been stood for a few months just gathering dust so I thought I’d take her out for a spin to loosen everything up and check everything is working OK.

I had to charge the battery overnight but other than that – I turned the key and she started up first time and ran perfectly! I was expecting all kinds of issues but it was even better than I remembered!

I was only meant to go for a quick spin but I missed driving it so much that I decided to take the car home for a few days. Anyway, the love is back! :D

I’m making plans again to sort the little issues and have even made a start on my backlog of jobs:
  • I had a massive thick cable sticking out in my boot (from an old ICE install) - I traced it back into the cabin and removed it for future use.
  • I removed a bit of the boot liner to prepare for my battery relocation and try out the battery box for size (it fits perfectly).
  • And today I finally fitted the Spoon chipped ECU! I had issues removing the cover plate before but I managed to get in at a decent angle and remove the remaining nuts. Whilst I had access to the ECU I also bodged together a little VTEC light… I need to rig it up properly (it is just hanging in the footwell at the moment) but I am going to have a think about what I want to do. I am considering sticking the 2 LED light strips I bought years ago in the footwells and having them light up when the car hits VTEC.
Anyway, I took her out for another spin today post Spoon chip - and I absolutely love it!! :vtec:

Can’t wait to get through the rest of my to do list now!

Well I got my new coilovers fitted today and wow what a difference. The car handles like a dream and I'm loving the easy hard/soft level controls on the top mounts!

I left the height adjustments as they were out of the box and it is very low at the back and a bit higher at the front. In fact the back wheels are disappearing into the arches. I love it. Only got the one pic to show for now though:

Anyway, that's the good thing that happened today. Earlier this morning, when I was just about to set off to the garage, my car wouldn't start... so I had to jump start it. I just so happened to have some jump leads handy and my other car, so that was no bother, but the weather was crap - it was pouring down and blowing very strong winds. I just managed to get my engine running, removed the jump leads, put the bonnet down on my other car and was about to put it down on the lude when a gust of wind caught it and flipped it up over my windscreen :-(

It took all my strength to push it down against the wind but it did go back down again thankfully, but it is all bent near the hinges:

So now I'm on the look out for a new bonnet! Think I'll go for an oem style carbon fibre one if I can find one. Wish I didn't have to spend more money but I think the purchase of these coilovers has opened the floodgates

 what a shitter! Sorry that's happened dude. Still, it's lucky your windscreen didn't get smashed, at least.

Yeah definitely, I saw it all happen in slow motion and I ran straight over and grabbed it. If I didn't win the battle against the wind I fear I might have had more than a bent bonnet to deal with.

thats bad luck Rich :(
like mercutio says could have been worse - ive still got the dent inmy roof from my cf bonnet

you might want to take a look at this car thats listed as parts for breaking it looks to be a similar colour - might be a cheap fix for the bonnet ;)

and not being funny but youve got the rotation on your front tyres the wrong way round - i only noticed cause i did the same thing and went out on my first track day with the tyre drawing water instead of pushing it out
