This is all you need:

In all seriousness, I've really wanted some for a while now, but too many bad reviews of what ebay ones are available and now I have a carbon bonnet I'm scared to even attempt. Do anyone do them for carbon bonnets? I.e. less hydraulic force. The obvious thing is to get some from the scrap yard and try them, but trial and error could take tons of them to find some to suit. I have seen the DC2 Tein ones used on a 5th gen with minimal modifications.
This was going to be my solution:

Supposedly shrinks down to 242mm which ain't bad. a small bracket in the engine bay out of the way to clip it into?

to be fair they are just gas struts
its the brackets you need, maybe find cheap ebay or 2nd kit
and find some suitable struts maybe from a scrappy, but I fear most will be too much for carbon bonnets
