TBOW, your tracker is looking good mate, well done :)
:nono: i dont either, probably never will, aftermarket support for track parts like cages etc isnt that great so there isnt really a second hand market to keep costs down
who needs "track parts" to do a track day? I tracked mine twice when I first bought her, and it was a completely standard 2.2 automatic back then - had great fun :D and ive done 3 track days in her since, plus been down santa pod strip twice and never broken anything during one.

all you need is a full license, a helmet (can hire one on the day) and a car that's not about to fall apart, plus make more noise than 98/105 db - depending on your location :)

Another Track 4th gen - Engine out - ABS out

Post by Thebusofwoe » Sun Nov 17, 2013 6:05 pm

Well guys its been a long time since I put an update :? :D .
Thought I better get on with it as I want it drivable in march  And I still got a jobby load to do. :x So we thought we would get on with taking the motor out and removing the abs.

Bonnet off, down pipe and drive shafts come out. The down pipe is almost new!!

Image
My mate Ant. Hmm, what to take off next

Image
Trying to be a turban lol   Goon!! :guns:

Image
Motor out, Was easier than we thought :D

Image
Ant in the process of removing the Abs Modulator ect. :D

Image
Jesus this thing was MINGIN. There was oil over every inch of the motor and gearbox. Was flippin everywhere

Yes I did a lot  but you see, Ant works for Noon's scrap yard so he was eager to get his hand's dirty, so I left him to it. :D. What a legend. He then said "what next?" Abs I said, with that he goes and cuts all the brake pipes off, no problem :? or so we thought. He cuts through the HIGH PRESSURE hose, Feck I almost had a heart attack  . Covered everything in brake fluid as well as himself    Like a bloody bomb went off, he actually fell over in the engine bay lol. .

So with that we continue to remove the gearbox, clutch, flywheel and brackets ect. Mount the motor on the engine stand, and that's where it sits as of now.

So plans are? I hear you say. Well I was going to put a H22A in but the missus went scatty when I said I was doing that   Going to make most of the A2. So will be upgrading: lightweight flywheel, new clutch, intake system (filter, pipe work etc.), Stainless manifold and down pipe, engine mounts, rad hoses and fitting a manual cam belt adjuster. :D Not much but should do the trick. Will also be fitting one of Rob's chips if the ecu is compatible ;)

I will be replacing all bad/leaking seals and completely cleaning the motor and gearbox too. New belts also fitted. Will be keeping the power steering as that's an assist I need!! That's about it for now guys.

Also what are your thought's on getting the sump baffled?? I figure it would be a good idea seeing as its going to be tracked most of the time :D
Cheers

A good tip, while the engine is out fill the mounts with sikaflex, it'll give a better feel and response from the engine. Also I'd remove the clutch damper and fit a braided line direct from the master cylinder to slave cylinder. I think you can buy them on eBay just £22iirc

Yea cool. Thanks for that. I'm defo getting rid of the clutch damper thing, after seeing what's it's done to clutches. ;) The mounts I was thinking about them mount inserts. I run them on my vti civic and tbh I like them. Hold the motor solid IMO. :D

Have you got a non-ABS brake proportioner to put in now that you have removed the ABS unit?

Yes get one. Performance Autoworks will baffle your sump for around £130 ;) A braided clutch line is a good idea too. I like the feeling of my one, very "direct" feeling.

I'm gonna be working on the sump baffles shortly, unless your running semi slicks and good suspension it's not necessary apparently.
