Turbo project?

Post by Rikmister » Thu Oct 31, 2013 8:13 pm

Hi peps
I have been wanting a turbo car for ages but know I'm thinking of turboing my bb4. I have read its ok to turbo it with a stock block. I want to put a built up head (arp studs) skunk manifold. I only want to run about 6-8 psi boost so what's the best turbo. If any of you guys have any bits unwanted or used ones your selling send them my way ill happily buy them. I want to start by getting the built head first the inlet manifold then exhaust mani and turbo kit..
Anyway what's your thoughts on this

std block will only take a low pressure turbo set up and then not for too long 6psi is the max before the piston rings give way

Ok so there is no real point unless I build the block, which is crazy money isn't it. Think ill have to just sell the lude next year and get an rx7 or something

230bhp on a low pressure build in the best handling fwd car not to mention the best looking coupe and still more reliable than a standard rx7 or rx8 or skyline or supra

Or you can look at Mahle gold series pistons. There good for 600 bhp iirc without sleeving

rotary turbo engine will need rebuilds every so often anyway

I thought skyline's were pretty reliable?

Yeah the RB engines are pretty damn impressive before you have to rebuild.

Mazda rotary's...meh.

As has been said, a cheaper block build would be some Mahle Gold Series pistons, rather than sleeving the engine and would allow plenty of scope for a decent turbo project in a FWD car.

Ok so I assume its best to get the overbore pistons then to fit the bores better (getting the sleeves bored) also do I need rods as well or just use the stock ones. What's the best compression ratio pistons?

Your better off using a good block and not bore out a worn out one. They do make .25 overbore pistons but it does weaken the frm liners so best left stock size if possible.

If you keep it low boost then stock rods will be ok but I doubt you could push them much harder.
236bhp and 170ft/lb stock

Ok it all seems Abit risky I think. Is it really worth doing pistons head to run low boost. Problem I have is I love my lude. Nice to drive handles brilliantly looks amazing and pretty powerful. It just needs something like a turbo or charger to complete it
