Brake help please ASAP!

Got my new lude through an MOT recently no sweat but I did notice while I was working on it that one of the braded hoses was weaping, no problem I thought so I swapped them to stock one from another breaker I did a few years ago. I bled them good, no air left coming out and topped up the res using dot 4 fluid as I was going along, it did not run dry at any point. All seemed fine for a bit but then my brake pedal randomly goes down a lot further that normal, brake again and it is fine

I bled them again for good measure and same thing has happened to me again

Its all dry and no obvious leaks, bled twice. Its got me baffled, am I using wrong brake fluid?? is my master cylinder on its way out?? Was not doing this before I swapped the flexi pipes over. Real pissed of because I didn't expect this and I know I will end up working in the drokking rain.

Any ideas please chaps? Cheers.

Dot 3 Bri as I remember,I can't get to my manual ATM.Dot 4 caused a big hoo hah back in the 90's as it was supposed to screw the ABS. Pumping brakes is a sure sign you have some air somewhere if its not leaking fluid out.

Just a thought Bri what order did you bleed them in. I thought it was the furthest away from the master cylinder first working to the nearest last. (I could be wrong I often am!)

Ahh I did drivers side pipe first took it for a run round the block then did the passenger side. I will dump the lot and change calipers on the weekend to be sure, I got the silver one and I know they are working perfic. I will get some dot 3 fluid too. It is a bit worrying realy

Thanks for the fast reply Paul, going to have a look on the manual now I have found it and see if I can learn anything, I am wondering if the flexi hoses I put on are soft too? Will have to get this sorted ASAP

Been having a quick google around and no one on any Honda forum seem to agree with one or another or the sodding manual. Seems like a bloody nightmare to get a definitive answer!

ive got a similar problem on my track lude, pedals been really soft goes down a long way before really doing much. So far ive roughed the pads up and changed all the fluid as i thought i may have cooked the fluid, ive got all new discs and pads to go on the front and new lines to go on all round. my black lude is very sharp from the top of the peddal so ill be glad to see your findings.

sounds like air in it to me, either not bled it out or its sucking it in somewhere i find preludes do have a bit more travel than a lot of cars but not excessive. give it another bleed bri, persistance conquers all.

DOT 4 chaps, it supercedes DOT3 and is fully compatible. It's DOT 5 that's the odd one you want to avoid like a plague.

dot 5.1 is a nice cheap alternative to something like srf which is £48, a litre bought it today
