Car jerking when rolling at idle

Post by BigTom » Tue Oct 08, 2013 3:55 pm

Hi all,

Noticed recently while creeping through some motorway traffic that the car (5th 2.2) jerks a bit while rolling forwards in 1st with just the idle revs. This doesn't happen when the engine is cold and the idle is around 1100rpm, but when it warms up and drops to 700rpm then it jerks.

Should I just adjust the idle upwards a bit on the throttle body, or is there something else I should look at first?

Cheers,
Tom

Clutch issues maybe?

Nope, the revs are nice and stable, both warm and cold

check the fitv valve. as you look at the inlet manifold whilst standing at the front of the car. its just behind the distributor.

undo the 2 screws on the cover with a stumpy screwdriver.

i tightened mine using a screwdriver on on of the slots.

Unplug the idle air control valve when warm and see if there is a change.

700rpm is at stall point - too low revs to creep in traffic. There is a point when the engine is running too slow and the jerking  begins... about 1000rpm is about the lowest I can go in traffic with clutch engaged...

should be able to creep at idle the auto manages it so adjust your idle a little to 750 or 850

Mine did this for a while. Sorting the EGR system seemed to sort it out.

Also check your front/rear engine mounts...
