Just be very careful if fitting the cover to the engine to cure. I found the paint very soft even after allowing the paint to dry for 3 days. Also take special care when refitting the alternator harness as the gap is narrower because of the new paint.

Anyone tried baking in the oven before re-fitting?

I wouldnt describe it as messy but there is room for error due to the soft paint on the side of the letters being pulled instead of sliced. I fear scuffing up the paint while sanding afterwards.Shiny wrote:Personally I wouldn't bother with vaseline on the letters, it is messy.

Having painted more than a few of these, Shiney is pretty much spot on.
A Stanley blade and a bit more sanding again after the paint has dried will get the letters tidied up nicely again.
Masking the fully dried paint around the letters will save you catching your fresh paint.

Good timing, I'm hoping to do mine at the same time as the valve clearance checks in the next few weeks. I had been looking at this guide in the how to section: Refurbish a rocker cover
Thanks for the extra info as well Merlin and Shiny, hopefully I won't make a pig's ear of it when I get around to doing mine! Make sure you post pics of yours Dino, be good to know how you get on!
