Which gear box ?
Post by bushygingernuts » Mon Sep 23, 2013 3:52 pm
So after reading and reading and talking and talking the plan is to add boost ......
So first item on the list is a manual convertion
Would you go with the uzq7 or the mzb4 ?
But now the biggie (well for me any how )I want to aim for 400hp but would be over the moon with 330ish
Or is there a better box for the job ?
Cheers
Kyle

What do you plan to do with the car? Do you want to stick with the OEM LSD's and/or final drives contained within each gearbox?
The M2B4 would be a slightly better choice as it has longer gears in 2nd & 3rd which would reduce the chance of spinning the wheels up. But ideally I would choose the Torsen style diff in the U2Q7 over the viscous diff in the M2B4
Its a dilemma IMO

You could yes but you would need to take the gear set from the M2B4 (better to use the M2F5 gear set as they are cheap compared to the M2B4) and put it in the U2Q7 as the M2B4 uses a specific housing that only works with viscous diffs. Really though if this is for a car that you use almost entirely on the road I would just go with the M2B4. Plus combining gearboxes would be £200-£300 in labour from a gearbox specialists.

Have you considered using an after market diff? Quaife, Wavetrac, Cusco, MFactory? Or if you are a sucker for punishment the Kaaz? That way you can use what ever gearbox you like (excluding the M2B4).
Again though, no point in splashing out if it only sees the road IMO.
