Neither Are you mad?![]()
You may want to throw "If you had to choose between 5 and 1.2" in there otherwise I'm just going to vote neither againDonald wrote:maybe tonight I will start a new topic with the proper questionWhen you look at 5 or 1.2, which one makes you think of half of a whole unit?

This is what im thinkinglewd lude lover wrote:I think I have spotted the issue here.
I would think of
1:2
as a representation of half in ratio form.
I would not think of
1.2
as a representation of half in any form.
Donald has used both in this thread. Which do you mean Donald?
in answer, if you stick to 1.2 rather than 1:2.
5 gives me more of the impression of 'half' mainly due to cultural signifiers. We use a decimal system so 50% is half, 5 is half of ten which is one full unit, as it were. Half is a very subjective quantity. The measurement may be the same but the answer/quantity will be different depending on what you are halving. If I were working in a different system, say pre decimal, or I was perchance on meth then I might feel differently.
Once you have a half of something you have a whole half so what do you do then?

Yep, I wanted to see if anyone said 90, but no, the smart guy had to answer first...NafemanNathan wrote:Well 72bb1boy wrote:how many minutes are there in 1.2 hours?![]()
hahaha ok then, in answer to your question, neither of your options make me think of a half. 5 makes me think of 5 single units and 1.2 makes me think of, well, 1.2 units.. or one and one fifth.Donald wrote:Bb1 has completely missed the point because of course 0.5 and 1/2 are halves of a whole
